A great read Bish. Wherever your marathon a week journey takes you, your physical and mental resilience is amazing. You forgot reason 6 though: carte blanche to eat as much KFC as you fancy!
Thank you Cake, I'll take that compliment coming from someone who just pulled off a 90+kms bike ride less than 9 months having endured brutal surgery in both knees! You're determination is epic. It's nice, too, to have realised that I have you to blame for getting me back into running.....and for loving KFC, for that matter!
I really enjoyed this Tim, I read it whilst safely under my duvet, I absolutely HATE running, I have tried, I really have, but it just makes me feel too close to death. 😆 However your piece still resonated in the sense that much of what you say you get from running, I get from writing. I enjoy it, in spite of the pain; I am addicted to many aspects of it, including the feedback (hello ego!); I feel a sense of control when writing, I get to decide exactly what will be on that page and hopefully create something neat and pleasing, when all of the rest of my life is messed up and chaotic; I get that sense of A to B satisfaction you describe, too. And I do think we enter that meditative state of 'flow' during creativity, too. So basically, I don't need to run, do I?! I can stay under my duvet, right?! PHEW!
Ps also I found it interesting that in your final section where you talk about running and feeling, your mind somehow entered this state as you tried to conjure it, which resulted in some really beautiful writing. Those last two paragraphs worked out really well. Fantastic. 👏👏👏
Thanks for reading (whilst hiding) and for your kind words about my ramblings, luvvie!
I like the comparison with writing, and I guess there are likely things that bind these (and other pursuits/past-times/art together) - maybe things such as: ‘purpose’, ‘responsibility’, ‘growth’? Something to further explore.
When we’re back in the summer we must get together and discuss…over a dog walk 💫💙
Loved reading this Timbo, you’ve captured so eloquently why we run and an awful lot of what you have said massively resonated with me. Looking forward to the next instalment!

No negative thoughts, just lots of tight lycra. 😅

Dog walk, fine, just don't make me RUN! 😆
Seriously, if you are coming in the summer, that's brilliant. Let me know dates and places when you have them, let's make it happen! xx
I’ll drop you a separate notes x
